Alan Paine Knitwear
Alan Paine has been knitting in Godalming, Surrey since 1907, when William Paine bought his first knitting machines and started making garments under the name Paines of Godalming. The company took his son's name in 1949.
They are credited with some of the earliest cable knit sweaters, and the house style has not moved far from it: fine-gauge lambswool and merino, country colours, cut for wearing under a jacket rather than over a t-shirt. A small, considered selection here - sweaters, tops and caps.
