# Burleigh Pottery

**Burleigh** has been making earthenware since 1851 and has worked from Middleport Pottery in Stoke-on-Trent since 1889 - the same Victorian works, the same bottle kilns.

What makes it worth seeking out is the decoration. Burleigh is the only pottery in the world still using tissue transfer printing, where patterns are lifted from engraved copper rollers onto tissue and applied to each piece by hand. That is why the blue Calico and Asiatic Pheasants patterns look the way they do, and why no two pieces are identical.
